Nonfiction Article Reading and Text Analysis Practice
When teaching student how to do Text Analysis, it is important to show them how to complete it with a non fiction article as well as fiction short stories/excerpts. This product breaks down an adapted, high-interest article into three simple parts. Annotation, Central Idea and finding evidence. You can use this in addition to my text analysis graphic organizer to further students practice with writing text analysis paragraphs.

Super Bowl Commercial Analysis
Whether you are reviewing logos, ethos and pathos or just getting started, using commercials is a great tool! This is just a slide show! Students can watch the commercials and identify the rhetorical strategy used. Feel free to use any commercials. Students can respond on loose leaf paper or you can make an accompanying worksheet.

KWL stands for “know, want, learn.” This literacy strategy leads students to list things that they already know about the topic, then what they want to know, and after the reading, what they have learned. The “K” step requires students to access their prior knowledge. This allows them to make connections between what they already know and new information. The “W” step makes students ask questions and look for the answers within the text. The “L” step allows students to reflect on what they learn

Teaching style
As an English teacher who works with a diverse population, it is incredibly important to me to build relationships with students and parents. In class, I strive to create a welcoming environment for all students where we can have conversations and healthy debates, discussing life, literature and more. Most of my work is aimed towards preparing students for life and the NYS English Regents Exam.

Teaching was my dream job from as long ago as I can remember. It started in my childhood bedroom teaching my stuffed animals and escalated to rearranging my furniture to as closely resemble a classroom as possible. Other kids begged their parents to go to the toy store, I begged mine to go to the teacher supply store. Needless to say, I have a passion for teaching and education. After my first year teaching, I realized the need to create materials that still kept with the standards but were more realistic, creative and engaging!
