Hi! My name is Jolene Mathew. In 2008, I started working in a district that had all the new tech tools, but they did not give us the actual content-filled resources to use with the fancy tech. It was here is a Mimio and a laptop. Use it. I soon began to dream of making educational resources utilizing technology for other classrooms. But I thought I would need a few million dollars to invest to get started on such a dream. Little did I know the doors that would open up for me that would more than fulfill my dream years later. In 2013, I started with just my computer thanks to the opportunity TPT presented. On top of that, I wanted to be an author since fourth grade. The opportunity to start The Candy Class fulfilled so many dreams. With that said, literacy is absolutely my greater passion because literacy changes lives for the better and opens up doors of opportunity for others. Teaching style

Since I am a firm believer that making connections in the brain is where it is at and how even the science of reading experts use terms like mental models as a major goal for developing strong literacy skills, my teaching style is centered on ways to support students in making connections to increase literacy development in all learners. Whether that is hands-on activities, being fun and engaging to make it relevant to young learners, using technology to provide visual support that leads to more brain connections, or other solid teaching methods, the heart of my style is making connections to build those mental models to increase literacy and writing skills. All my current curriculum is developed with high depth with reflection on how can students make more connections.
