Self Regulation, Social-emotional Learning, Brain Breaks, and Meditation!

"Dysregulation is the enemy of education" ~ Dr. Bruce Perry Trauma informed best practices are the wave of the future. We must help our students (and ourselves) learn how to regulate our brain states so that we can be happy and primed for learning. Trying to teach a dysregulated child is like trying to pour water into a container with a lid on it. It is an exercise in futility and frustration. These task cards were designed with trauma informed practices in mind, and address the needs of the

Anxiety Relief Affirmation Cards

This beautiful deck has several cards you can print out and use for daily affirmations. I am testing the waters with this free resource. If you like them please leave comments. If you would like to see some things changed to make them better, let me know. They should print as a 4 inch by 6 inch image, on image per page. I meet you where you are and take you to where you want to go.

My own education history

I received my education degree from Ball State University in 1990. I have studied all sort of things since then, not always through a university. Graduate Certificate in Applied Educational Neuroscience from Butler University Master's Degree in Teaching English Language Learners from American Academy of Education

Additional biographical information

Outside of the traditional school setting I have explored many other disciplines including hypnotherapy, NLP, and a variety of alternative energy/body therapies. My personal favorites are EMF Balancing Technique and working with the Akashic Records. I have been exploring EFT (tapping) in my classroom this year. I have authored a book, created guided meditation CDs, and hosted an internet radio show. I was also a one to one provider and a Resilient Educator facilator using programs developed through the Institute of Heartmath. (I get bored easily and like to learn new things!). I have always believed we must address ourselves and our students as WHOLE BEINGS. It is imperative that we address the brain state (emotional state, stress response) BEFORE we can even attempt to teach them any other content. Trying to teach math facts to a student who is dysregulated is like trying to pour water into a container that has a lid on it. It just doesn't work. No matter how many times you pour it, it isn't going to get in that container until you remove the barrier. That is what the educational neuroscience is all about (and all of the other things I mentioned, too!)
