This STEM Challenge requires students to create a paper gingerbread house, a small electrical circuit and decorate for Christmas! This includes knowledge of: - Nets of 3D Shapes - Simple electrical circuits (batteries, switches)
This project outline and rubric outlines a challenge; students must design and build a prototype house that will survive a 'natural disaster'. We had great fun testing student's houses in tsunami conditions, floor conditions and earthquake conditions to see if they would withstand the force of the natural disaster. This aligns well with ACARA Design Technologies & HASS Year 6 Curriculum, and the rubric is based on the Western Australian Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority Judging Standa
This template allows students to identify a problem they'd like to solve (this could be ecological, economical, social), who the problem affects and how they can go about solving the problem. This fits into the Design Thinking process.
