About the store
I have always had an interest in science and was lucky enough to have a mother who was an amazing cook. I worked as a full-time veterinarian prior to having children. My children were enrolled at a Parent Participation School and a teacher asked me to teach "cooking" to the second graders. That encompassed many subjects including math, social studies, science, and more. I found I had a knack for taking subject matter and tying it to food. Boy, does that get a kid to focus on you if they get a chance to eat!

Experience

I have always had an interest in science and was lucky enough to have a mother who was an amazing cook. I worked as a full-time veterinarian prior to having children. My children were enrolled at a Parent Participation School and a teacher asked me to teach "cooking" to the second graders. That encompassed many subjects including math, social studies, science, and more. I found I had a knack for taking subject matter and tying it to food. Boy, does that get a kid to focus on you if they get a chance to eat!

Teaching style

Anything with food tends to create some controlled chaos but it's also easy to gain control when the kids are truly enjoying a lesson. My style is hands-on and visual. It does not necessarily involve access to a kitchen, but that can be a plus. I try to use creative cooking methods and use my camp stove regularly. I strive to bring understanding to those kids who need to see something before they can truly comprehend it and to expand the minds of children to help them see that learning can be truly fascinating.

Additional biographical information

Our Parent Participation school requires 10 hours of parent training before we can work in the classroom. We are required to work in the classroom 2 hours per week. I have watched some amazing teachers at work and try to imitate them. I have been teaching cooking/science for 5 years. I have also been a Girl Scout leader for 5+ years.
