It starts with going back to college at the age of 42. I had worked for MBNA / Bank of America for 20 years and felt that this was a good time to go back and finish my degree. I graduated from Goldey-Beacom College with a BA in English and concentrations in Culture and Technology. During that time, after writing a paper titled “Illiteracy in College Athletes,” I decided to submit my application to Teach For America and was accepted into their 2015 Corps.
I spent 5 weeks teaching in Philadelphia as part of my education on diversity. In my first year of teaching, I taught all subjects in 5th grade. Teach For America then moved me to another school for two years. While I was there I obtained my Master of Arts in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education in 2017. I am currently back to teaching 5th grade at an amazing Catholic school.
I have been married to my husband, Devon, for 26 years and we have two grown children. We are also the proud parents of a 2 1/2-year-old Boxer puppy named Daisy. My students know her as "Crazy Daisy".
My passion is reading. I read all the time and you will never find me without a book in some sort of format. I also love to find the perfect book for a child who says, "I hate reading" and then see the look on their faces once that love for a story is discovered. I am also big on making things as simple as possible via technology in the classroom and am willing to try out anything new to help my students succeed.
