Previously, Dr. Smith was an Assistant Professor at Auburn University at Montgomery, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in educational psychology, child development, literacy, and instructional methods. It was in this role that she discovered a deep passion for mentoring novice teachers, finding great fulfillment in guiding pre-service educators as they developed their skills and confidence. She also built strong partnerships with local schools and actively contributed to academic service through faculty senate, accreditation committees, and professional societies.
Dr. Smith’s classroom teaching experience spans early childhood through middle grades, with roles at Helena Intermediate School, Calera Middle School, and Montevallo Elementary School. In these positions, she served as an elementary teacher, mentor, technology coordinator, instructional leader, and coach—always focused on enhancing student achievement and supporting her colleagues.
