Experience

Hi, my name is Amy Dow, and I am a school-based, ASHA certified, private, speech language pathologist. I have over 25 years of experience in the field of speech and language pathology. Working as a contract speech and language pathologist, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings with amazing students and professionals.

Teaching style

I love my job, and I would say that most people would say, it shows! I think my brand says it all! I strive to be fun, but I need what I do to be functional; therefore, the FUNctional speechie seemed fitting. My weekly lesson plans usually consist of 3-4 different activities that I can adapt to meet my diverse caseload's needs. Speaking of diverse, I work with students with severe to profound complex needs as well as students with mild impairments. For that, I am blessed, AND for that, I need resources to fit a multitude of needs! Many of my resources offer simple page layouts designed to limit visual and textual distractions. I hope you enjoy using them as much as I enjoy making them! As always, happy learning!

Awards & shining teacher moments

Yet to be determined. :)

My own education history

I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a BS in Speech and Language Disorders. If you are looking for a Big 10 school, I highly recommend it! I received my Masters of the Arts in Communication Disorders at Northern Illinois University. At Northern, I had the honor and privilege of working on a grant called Family Based Therapy. The importance and utilization of functional interventions were at the root of our therapy, and the experience definitely helped shape me into the therapist I am today.

Additional biographical information

I have an amazing husband, 2 wonderful daughters, and a son-in-law that I am very proud of. I love creating materials to use with my students, and I love buying them too! When I am not working, I love binge watching TV, working out, and laying on the beach!
