This lesson walks students through types of push and pull factors. The first slide is a note template. The notes follow along with the movie, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. This movie can be found on Netflix. We show this video in our Sub-Saharan Africa Unit. The notes have students identify what level of development Malawi is and make comparisons to their own country and what life would be like without electricity.

This mapping activity has students labeling a political and physical map of the North Africa and Southwest Asia region. This resource is a google doc and can be edited to best fit your students' needs. The * items on the political map are to be labeled on the inset map. Also included are two questions addressing oil as the major resource in the region and desertification in North Africa. I have my students research the answers to these two questions on their own. :)

This lesson is a great introduction to a geography course. We use this as our first day of material. The lesson talks about what geography is, how is it relevant, what geography includes, and ends by looking at images of toilets from around the world. Yes, the toilets. We use a fun zombie apocalypse theme to teach GIS and Spatial Analysis. The slides walk you through a scenario that you will read to the class. This activity is based on the premise of the show, Shark Tank. You can have students choose their own energy resource or have them draw randomly from a bucket. This lesson goes through the types of maps; political, physical & thematic. It also talks about large-scale maps vs small-scale maps. Lastly the lesson mentions the Mercator projection. Integrated into the lesson are check for understanding questions that you can use to review the material covered with your students.

This presentation goes through how to read a map. We talk about how there is LOTS (legend, orientation, title, scale) to look for. This google slides presentation goes over the physical processes; weathering, erosion, tectonic forces as well as the biosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere. For notes, I have students take two sheets of colored copy paper and fold to make a flipbook.

This review covers our Europe and Russia units. Students will review by completing true/false questions, matching, fill in the blank, and write definitions. The main topics discussed in this unit are the Cold War, British Colonization, and the Industrial Revolution. You can use this as a test review or an extended activity.
