About the store
I have been teaching mathematics for over 15 years and I love every minute of it. I have spent a lot of time over the past few years focussing on my resources and improving my teaching strategies. I recently had a child and watching them learn how to fit shapes into a block has shown me how hard learning/ It has reminded me how difficult various mathematical concepts can be and helped me refocus and appreciate the difficulties towards learning new topics some students can face.

Factoring Trinomials with Algebra Tiles Lesson

This lesson guides students through how to factorize trinomials using algebra tiles to develop their conceptual understanding. Since using algebra tiles my students have really started to understand how and why we proceed with our algebraic methods. This lesson uses the box method of factorising, which builds on my expanding brackets lessons where the box method is first introduced. it is a nice way to visualise factorising and model with algebra tiles. The lesson starts with greatest commo

Introductory lesson on solving systems of linear equations by elimination using algebra tiles. This lesson was designed to help students visualize and conceptually understand how to eliminate variables when solving two linear equations.. A good precursor activity to this lesson is have students work on a few logic puzzles like the ones I use here: System of Linear Equations Logic PuzzlesHalloween Themed Logic Picture PuzzlesRelated resource: System of Linear Equations with Algebra Tiles Task Ca

Whole class review game to practice a variety of solving linear equations questions. A student picks a moving duck from the game board, and the whole class answers the question on their whiteboards. Points are gained if they get the answer correct. Bonus points are available if a duck is hooked. These slides include a chance to answer a random fact and increase the bonus point value. My students enjoy getting to choose the ducks and the chance to gain bonus points.

This lesson uses algebra tiles to help students visualise the distributive property. It links with using the box method of expanding, to help student understanding. It starts with single brackets then moves onto double brackets. This method links nicely with using the reverse box method to factorize trinomials. About the store

Experience

I have been teaching mathematics for over 15 years and I love every minute of it. I have spent a lot of time over the past few years focussing on my resources and improving my teaching strategies. I recently had a child and watching them learn how to fit shapes into a block has shown me how hard learning/ It has reminded me how difficult various mathematical concepts can be and helped me refocus and appreciate the difficulties towards learning new topics some students can face.

Teaching style

I love to visually represent math ideas and concepts to help students realize those 'ah ha' moments. I also love a good activity to link mathematics to the real world or a fun game to play to liven up a lesson. I like a mix of independent work and group work. I like to mix it up a bit to stop my teaching from getting stagnant.

My own education history

I have recently completed my MA in Education. This sounds odd to say as a teacher, but I was never a huge fan of learning when I was younger, however going back to study helped me find a love for learning and showed me again how much I enjoy teaching and want to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone I teach.
