This is the series of lessons I use every year that leads to student-created classroom rules. It incorporates ideas from True Colors and The Responsive Classroom teaching strategies. After they create these rules, my students have ownership and strive to allow others to reach their Hopes and Dreams, which the students all illustrate for a really colorful bulletin board. A great project to do at the beginning of the year and before Open House!

This is a template I use with my 4th/5th grade students when converting metric units (ex: 47L = ___ mL). Students simply write down the first unit, aligning the decimal (47.0) on the unit's dashed vertical line. They then move the decimal to the new unit and like magic, their unit is converted! It takes a few examples for it to sink in with kids, but they love it once it clicks!
