Experience

Over the past decade, I have honed my expertise as a dedicated math tutor, equipping students with the tools and confidence to excel in their mathematical pursuits. Additionally, I have spent the last five years as a professional teacher, specializing in instructing both regular learners and those with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, GDD, and other unique challenges. This experience has deepened my understanding of tailored pedagogical approaches, allowing me to create inclusive and engaging learning environments that cater to each student's individual strengths and learning styles. Through patient guidance and innovative teaching methods, I have witnessed remarkable transformations in my students, empowering them to not only conquer mathematical concepts but also develop a genuine love for the subject.

Teaching style

My teaching style is firmly rooted in the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, a methodology that has proven highly effective in fostering comprehensive mathematical understanding. By initially introducing concepts through tangible, real-world materials and hands-on experiences, I provide students with a solid foundation in concrete representations. This allows them to grasp abstract mathematical ideas more readily. Moving into the pictorial stage, I employ visual aids, diagrams, and illustrations to bridge the gap between concrete experiences and abstract concepts, facilitating a deeper understanding. Finally, I transition seamlessly into the abstract phase, where students confidently manipulate numbers and symbols with a solid conceptual framework in place. This sequential approach not only ensures a thorough comprehension of mathematical principles but also instills a sense of confidence and autonomy in my students, enabling them to tackle complex problems with ease and creativity.

My own education history

I hold a comprehensive educational background that encompasses a Diploma in Language and Literacy, showcasing my dedication to the fundamental pillars of literacy and numeracy. Additionally, I have undergone rigorous training in the acclaimed Singapore Math curriculum, renowned for its rigorous and effective pedagogy. This specialized expertise equips me with a unique perspective on mathematical instruction, allowing me to implement proven strategies that cultivate deep conceptual understanding in students. Furthermore, my training in the Science of Reading has fortified my ability to address the intricacies of language acquisition and literacy development, providing me with a holistic approach to nurturing students with special literacy and numeracy needs. These combined qualifications underscore my commitment to fostering well-rounded, proficient learners in both language and mathematics.
