This activity is to go alongside the book “Spaghetti and Meatballs for All! A Mathematical Story” written by Marilyn Burns and Illustrated by Debbie Tilley. This book was AWESOME at introducing the idea of AREA and PERIMETER to elementary students however I wanted to be able to use it for my middle school students as well. In 6th grade students no longer use the “square”/counting method for area and perimeter, instead they are introduced to formulas and begin writing equations to solve these ty
This is a sports themed twist on the typical “Venn diagram” lesson of ordering rational numbers. You can also laminate the basketball court diagram and basketballs and use this as a group activity for years to come. Another option would be to laminate and attach to a cookie sheet, and then glue the basketballs to individual magnets so they can be easily manipulated and…storage is MUCH easier. I hope this is an activity you and your students enjoy!
Includes: Easy to read and follow notes for your students and a independent worksheet with answer documents. The hardest part of teaching histograms is trying to explain intervals…with these easy to follow step by step notes you can help your students comprehend those pesky interval notations. The independent practice ensures students know how to READ and UNDERSTAND the mean of a histogram as well as can construct one on their own
Students will dive into a series of fraction to percent problems, applying their mathematical knowledge to unveil important facts about Veterans Day. The activity includes a key that not only guides them through the problem-solving process but also reveals fascinating details about the history and significance of Veterans Day. As they match their answers to the key, students will uncover essential information, such as the origins of Veterans Day, the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women,
This is a hands on lesson that allows students to discover how many degrees are in a triangle by using their knowledge of how many degrees are in a straight angle (line). Students cut the angles off of the triangles included in the “cutouts” page and discover that when put together they form a straight line so – their angles also will add up to 180 degree just as in a straight angle. (I printed the “cutouts” on astrobright paper so that when the student glued the angles on the straight lines on
