About the store
I created The Math Shift to transform the way students engage with mathematics. My goal is to provide resources and activities that encourage deep understanding, critical thinking, and a genuine curiosity for math. Traditional math instruction often relies on direct teaching and rote memorization. Unfortunately, this approach isn’t working for many students. Too often, they struggle to connect with math concepts and fall behind, leaving them frustrated and disconnected from the subject. Math education needs a dramatic shift—one that empowers students to think for themselves, explore ideas, and develop true understanding. Math is more than a series of steps to memorize—it’s a way of thinking, solving problems, and discovering connections. The resources I design are meant to help students move beyond mimicry and algorithms, so they can confidently grasp concepts and see math in a whole new light. Whether you're looking for challenging problems, collaborative activities, or tools for teachers, The Math Shift offers materials to help you create a classroom where students don’t just do math—they think math. Join me in making the shift and helping students unlock the power and beauty of mathematics.

Experience

I created The Math Shift to transform the way students engage with mathematics. My goal is to provide resources and activities that encourage deep understanding, critical thinking, and a genuine curiosity for math. Traditional math instruction often relies on direct teaching and rote memorization. Unfortunately, this approach isn’t working for many students. Too often, they struggle to connect with math concepts and fall behind, leaving them frustrated and disconnected from the subject. Math education needs a dramatic shift—one that empowers students to think for themselves, explore ideas, and develop true understanding. The resources I design are meant to help students move beyond mimicry and algorithms, so they can confidently grasp concepts and see math in a whole new light. Teaching style

My teaching style is centered around fostering an environment where students actively engage with mathematics and develop a deep understanding of concepts. I believe in creating opportunities for students to explore, question, and connect ideas rather than simply memorizing algorithms or mimicking instructions. I emphasize problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and to view math as a tool for making sense of the world. I use real-world applications and open-ended questions to spark curiosity and promote deeper discussions, helping students make meaningful connections between mathematical ideas. I also value reflection and growth, providing students with space to think critically about their thinking process. This approach allows them to build confidence and develop strong problem-solving skills, ensuring they understand not just how to solve problems, but why the methods work. By shifting the focus away from rote memorization and toward thoughtful exploration, I aim to cultivate a classroom environment where students are not just doing math—they are thinking math.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics, a single-subject teaching credential in mathematics, and a Master's degree in learning experience design and educational technology.
