Experience

I have taught math in public and private schools for over 20 years to students of all ability levels. My first job taught me the importance of meeting students where they are and building their skills from there. You will see this in my guided notes. I start with basic problems and gradually increase the difficulty. Working with struggling learners for most of my career, I found that chunking the work and less distractions is better for many students. As an online learner myself, when Covid hit, I embraced the changes to the classroom by integrating more technology and the benefits of self-checking assignments for students as well as for myself as a teacher.

Teaching style

I design my lessons using a flipped learning approach. My notes are designed in such a way that the material can be chunked and 5-10 minute videos can be made to help students complete them. A key component of flipped learning is allowing students time in class to work on individual assignments. Adding self-checking activities to my students' assignments in class has allowed me to see better when a student is struggling and offer assistance even if they are afraid of asking for help.
