About the store

Experience

I had the pleasure of teaching first grade for thirteen years. While teaching, I earned a Master's of Education with a Reading Specialist Certification. With this certification, I obtained a Title I Reading teacher position. This will be my fourth year as a Title I Reading teacher. I enjoy working with students in kindergarten, first, and second grade and seeing them develop as readers.

Teaching style

I believe in the science of reading. Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency. vocabulary, and comprehension are crucial in developing reading skills that will be utilized throughout a student's life Modeling and sharing the love of reading and introducing students to a variety of genres will hopefully ignite a passion for reading for pleasure. Students need to see that reading goes beyond the school's walls. The reading/writing connections is key. Writing demonstrates a student's phonics abilities. Writing also permits students to share insights, connections, and feelings about what they read.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Smiles, laughter, aha-aha moments, and the excitement/love for reading are all the honor/rewards I need! :)

My own education history

2003 - Bachelor of Science in Education 2011 - Master of Education with a Reading Specialist Certification

Additional biographical information

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our mischievous cats. When I am not teaching or creating TPT materials, I enjoy reading (Of course...LOL!), gardening, exercising, crafting, hiking, cooking/baking, and going to the beach.
