Hey, I’m Whitney, a real teacher behind The Real Witty Historian. I make classroom-tested history resources that are meant to actually help. Not fluff. Not filler. Not cute nonsense that falls apart the minute students touch it. These are solid resources with real content, real structure, and real classroom purpose. I use them myself. I build them for the kind of days teachers actually have: ✔ mixed ability classes ✔ limited time ✔ admin walk-through energy ✔ students who need engagement fast ✔ weeks where life is life-ing I also believe resources can be both brilliant to look at and brilliant to teach. You should not have to choose between rigor and aesthetics. I’m human. That means while I aim for excellence, I’m also sometimes on my fifth cup of coffee, answering emails in a parking lot, or sprinting to soccer practice. So if you ever spot a typo, formatting issue, or weird link, message me. I will be mortified and I will fix it quickly. Because I care about what I put out, and I care about the teachers using it. Most of all, I know budgets are real. I never take your purchase lightly. IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTES Please read each listing before purchasing so you know exactly what you’re getting. Many of my resources are non-editable on purpose to protect the original content, keep formatting clean, and make sure you can assign them immediately instead of wrestling with text boxes at 9:47 PM. If editable student response areas are included, I will clearly say so in the listing. I truly want you to get resources that fit your needs and make your life easier. I also want to gently remind everyone that reviews can absolutely make a creator’s day or send them into a dramatic internal spiral. So if a product clearly says non-editable, and the only heartbreak is that you cannot move a title three inches to the left, please save yourself the frustration and save me from rocking in the corner over a two-star review on a perfectly good resource. Teaching style

If you walked into my classroom, there is a fair chance Pearl Jam or Miike Snow is playing a tad bit too loudly in the background while students settle in. My hair is probably thrown up with a pencil, a random highlighter I found on the floor after first block, or whatever was within reach because vanity had to step aside for survival. There is almost always coffee nearby. It is almost never hot. I’m usually perched on a desk in the middle of the room, gesturing like I’m directing traffic through historical chaos, asking too many questions, and trying to get students to see that the world is bigger and more complicated than they’ve been told. My job is not to create students who can memorize facts for a quiz and forget them by Friday. My job is to help students think. To question sources. To challenge easy answers. To recognize bias. To rely on their own reasoning instead of whatever AI spits out, whatever social media sells them, or whoever they currently idolize with suspicious confidence. The world is big, messy, complicated, and loud. I want my students to know how to move through it with curiosity, courage, and common sense. I care deeply about every one of my students. That care does not always look soft or sentimental. Sometimes it looks like high expectations, honest feedback, and refusing to let them play small intellectually. I use humor, honesty, discussion, and real-world connections to pull students in. I believe students rise when we ask something real of them. I do not shy away from hard history, uncomfortable truths, or the parts people try to sanitize. We teach all of it. Especially the parts that make us uncomfortable. Because those are usually the moments that matter most. My classroom is not about passive agreement or copying notes into oblivion. It is about curiosity, evidence, courage, and learning how to think for yourself. And if that leads us into a little good trouble now and then, we’re probably doing something right.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I’ve had some moments in this profession that mean more than any plaque ever could. Watching students who swore they hated history realize they actually love questioning the world. Helping struggling students find confidence they didn’t know they had. Mentoring new teachers through the beautiful circus that is education. Earning my Gifted & Talented certification, which means I know how to challenge students, raise the bar, and push thinking without crushing spirits. I’ve also learned that some of the best teaching moments never come with awards. They happen quietly, in classrooms, when a student finally gets it, speaks up, or starts believing they’re smarter than they thought. And yes, occasionally those moments are followed by me inhaling a snack in silence and questioning several life choices. Balance.

My own education history

I’ve got the degrees to back it up, a BA in History and an MAT from Clemson. Go Tigers. I also believe the most valuable professional development often happens in real classrooms, with real students, on real Tuesdays when half the class forgot pencils and the Wi-Fi is acting possessed. Education evolves constantly, and I stay learning right along with it. But the strategies I trust most are the ones tested in the trenches, refined over time, and proven to actually work with students, not just look good in a training slideshow. Yes, I implement best practices with fidelity...or whatever the latest buzzword is this week.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME When I’m not teaching or creating resources, I’m usually reading fantasy novels, gardening, making content online, or convincing my Scottish husband Liam that another bookshelf is not excessive, it is absolutely necessary. I’m also soaking up time with my kids while they still think I’m interesting, funny, and worth voluntarily talking to. WHY THIS STORE EXISTS This store exists to make your life easier. Not to take your money, disappear into the mist, and leave you alone with a broken file, vague directions, or regret. If you need engaging, classroom-tested history resources that hold student attention without creating more work for you, you’re in the right place.
