This assessment is meant to assess a higher level understanding of the concepts of area and perimeter. Students will have to employ critical thinking skills to be able to answer these questions. Data from this assessment will let you know who has mastered the standard and who has just scratched the surface.
Instead of trying to find an answer, students are given an expression or equation and asked to find the right question that matches the equation. They have to analyze their answer choices before selecting the correct answer.
Use these task cards/ Math Center activities to help your students get a deeper understanding of fraction models. Some of the questions are set to encourage conversation and guide students thinking.
These higher order area and perimeter questions are expected to help students develop critical thinking. Students may be required to do more than one step to solve. The graphic organizer will help students organize their thoughts.
