Here is a simple lab to get your students familiar with minerals. This lab is designed to meet the New York State science standards in earth science but it will work in any classroom as long as you have at least 12 of the minerals listed on page 16 of the Earth Science References Tables.
This document contains a list of 150 Earth Science concepts with over 75 diagrams, charts, and graphs that appear on most comprehensive exams. This list is not all-encompassing, however, it is quite thorough. I have taught earth science in New York state for 17 years and many of these facts show up year after year on the State exams. I use this list during review each year and over 90% of my students consistently pass the Regents earth science test, most of them with grades higher than 85%. My

Weathering, Erosion, Deposition, and Landscapes Guided Notes with KeyPerfect for Earth Science Class! This bundle includes a full unit of guided notes including editable copies to make it your own. As the name implies, this unit covers all aspects of weathering, erosion, deposition, and the resulting landscapes. Each document is 33 pages of comprehensive content. I've been teaching earth science for 17 years and this is the guided notes I use. I hope you like them
Albert Einstein once said that "Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think." I believe that my students may not ever have to identify the minerals in an igneous rock again, but I know they will have plenty of life problems to solve, That's why I created and proudly display this poster in my room.
The poster measures 8.5" X 44" and can be printed on 4 regular sheets of paper. I laminated mine before putting it across the top of my bulletin board.
Enjoy
This one kills at the geology conferences! This a funny 11" X 17" poster to place on your door for students to see as they leave your classroom. Of course, they won't get it until after to teach them that gneiss is the name of a metamorphic rock. You might notice that the word "gneiss" has been filled in with banding texture, as is common with gneiss rocks. Anyway, just a bit of silly decor for your room.
