The Sci Guy

This is an earth science teacher’s one-stop-shop for daily warm-up questions. These are questions (which I call Science Starters) that I developed and used over my 20 years teaching New York State Regents earth science. This bundle includes 13 Rock Cycle Fill-In worksheets with varying difficulties. Each worksheet is slightly different. They are perfect for the differentiated classroom. For example, some have word banks while others don't. Some only have a few blanks while others are mostly empty. These worksheets are designed to be used with multiple grade levels, ages, and abilities. Or you can scaffold the worksheets and hand them out to students as their skills grow. Here is a fillable Rock Cycle Diagram which is great for distance learning. No printing required! Just email it to your students and they can fill it in, save it, and email it back to you. Or, if you are using Google Classroom, you can "make a copy for each student" and they can click "Turn In" when they are done.

This worksheet challenges students to correctly complete a rock cycle diagram by placing terms from a word bank into the diagram. This is a great resource for differentiated instruction. If you want to increase the difficulty, you could withhold the word bank and see if students can fill it in.

I believe that my students may not ever have to identify the minerals in an igneous rock again, but I know they will have plenty of life problems to solve, That's why I created and proudly display this poster in my room. This is a great little project to get your students thinking about minerals, their properties, and their uses. First, students will conduct research on a mineral of their choice. I encourage them to pick a common rock forming mineral, or one that they are particularly interested in, like their birthstone. I try to steer them away from minerals that do not have many uses.
