The skin sensitivity test is an opportunity for students to experientially see how sensory neurons work in action. Sensory neurons have dendrites that spread across the surface of the skin. This creates regions of sensitivity on the skin that communicate through one sensory neuron. In this activity students measure and compare distances between the sensory neurons on the surface of a variety of body parts (forearm, skin, finger, etc). This sheet is written like the beginning of a science report.

I created this document to lead my year 7/8 students through the process of planning, conducting and reporting on a independent science investigation. This booklet includes sections for students to write a research proposal which includes materials required, variables to control and a basic risk assessment.
