Experience

20 years of varied teaching experience, including: international education (US, AU and UK), literacy intervention, 11 Plus test prep, English Language Schools and freelance tuition.

Teaching style

I believe organization is key! I am firm but loving and strive to meet children where they are at (differentiation is a must). I believe in learning through play and guiding pupils to explore for themselves. I believe independent practice should be completed into notebooks .....never meaningless worksheets that end up in the garbage hours later. I am a big kid at heart and enjoy pouring enthusiasm into my lessons.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I will never forget my parent teacher conferences at the English language school I worked at in Melbourne, Australia. My families were refugees and immigrants, many who came from horrific experiences. That said the English I taught their children was a gift and would be the key to their future. Their gratitude was the most humbling and rewarding experience I've had.

My own education history

Bachelor in Elementary Education (2002) Reading Endorsement (2009) Masters in Curriculum (2011)
