In my district we have done a lot of work to ensure students receive the continuum of instruction prescribed in the Common Core State Standards. Our goal is NO MORE GAPS! To help all teachers see the vertical alignment of standards, I created this document that includes: -CCSS grouped by standard across grade levels (K-5) -Color-coded grade levels -A "basic skill" column to easily locate and identify standards

This is a rubric that use with my students during reading conferences. In addition to discussions about strategies and the reading process, I think this is an efficient way to check in with students about their "Writing About Reading". It also gives me a grade for the gradebook!

I have struggled to find an efficient system of documenting my conferring sessions with students during my Readers' Workshop. I want to have enough information, but not so much that it limits how many students I can meet with per day. This form has worked well for me. This 3-page document gives students the opportunity to reflect on an assigned or self-selected book. It includes questions for guided response with setting, characters, plot (including conflict, climax, and resolution), and theme. There is also an evaluation component that allows students to rate and provide a personal review of the book.

This chart helps students think through the different elements of poetry as they examine the structure and characteristics of individual poems. This set of 47 illustrated mini-labels are great for posting the daily schedule for students to see! In my own classroom, I laminate them, cut them apart, and use strips of business card sticky magnets (found at any office supply store) to post on a chalk board or white board. This is a simple reading log form, but it includes some extra columns that help students practice math skills, as well. -Begin time, End time, total minutes -Begin page, End page, total pages Once students collect this data, students can evaluate their data and make hypotheses about: -Which days do I show the most stamina? Why? -Which days am I most focused? Why? -Do I read a particular genre more quickly? -Does where I sit impact my fluency and stamina? and many more. . .

This half-sheet printable is a quick and easy way for students to record their thinking while reading, jot down interesting vocab words, or identify story elements. The half-sheet format also serves as a handy bookmark!
