Experience
I have been working with elementary school kiddos struggling with speech and/or language disorders since 2016. I started creating custom materials for my students to meet their unique needs in the best possible way and there was no looking back!
Teaching style
I believe in hands-on learning and glass half-full approach. I believe that every child has strengths that can be used to help them engage in the learning process. Following their lead and conducting a reinforcer probe allows me to engage them in activities that they are responsive to and helps me build rapport and trust. Typically from there onwards, focusing on meaningful interactions and embedding their preferred activities in their target goals is the way to go for me.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I am a certified basic DIR Floortime provider. It is a play-based model that focuses on functional emotional developmental capacities of the students. It takes each student's individual differences into consideration and values building deeper relationships and meaningful communication rather than just adjusting observable behavior. It works especially with the ones on the autism spectrum. I enjoy using the Floortime principles while working with my students.
I have completed training as an Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinical Specialist through PESI.
