While reading Night by Elie Wiesel, I like for my students to do study guides for each chapter to assist them on quizzes and to assist them with following the story line. Since the memoir is short, there is a lot to unravel in each chapter. I have found that this is the best way for my students to keep up with what is happening. I only use study guides for chapters 1-7 because I like to do critical thinking and theme building during chapters 8 & 9. The following study guides listed above cover
My students had so much fun debating if the narrator in "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe was insane or sane. I began our debate with this discussion question, and I made each student write 3-5 sentences explaining their answer.
I have created this Poetry Vocabulary PowerPoint to assist me during the beginning of every poetry unit that I do. Although a lot of the presentation is filled with what should be review for the students, I have found that most of the time they have forgotten different poetic elements that are necessary for our unit. The presentation covers poetic types, poetic elements, some literary elements, and examples of each. (I also have a FREE note sheet for this presentation on my store page)
I have found that if my students do not understand the first chapter of the novel Night then they typically have a difficult time with the rest of the novel. This study guide provides both comprehension questions, critical thinking questions, and quotation observation questions. This study guide has helped my students really dig into the first chapter of the novel.
One of the most tedious tasks as a teacher is creating PowerPoints to go along with lessons. I created this PowerPoint to go along with my characterization and character development lesson. It teaches students direct characterization, indirect characterization, and different types of characters. I also implemented discussion questions to give the students a chance to relate these different types of characters to their favorite movie and TV show characters. This PowerPoint has transformed my clas
One of the first things that I start with in my English 9 class is reviewing different Elements of Literature. I created this Google Slides for my students, and I gave them a note sheet to go along with the slides. You can never have too many elements of literature presentations!
The following quiz covers chapters 1-7. I like to input this to make sure that the students are grasping the content of the novel before finishing out the final 2 chapters of the book. This quiz has 10 character matching questions, 18 multiple choice questions, and 2 free response questions. The quiz covers characters, plot, and quote identification.
Romeo and Juliet can be hard for students to tackle when it is typically their introduction to the world of Shakespeare. I created this 10 question quiz for students to take after reading the first 2 acts of the play. This quiz focuses solely on reading comprehension to ensure that students are actively following the plot before diving into literary elements.
The following note sheet goes along with any poetry unit. It covers poetic types, poetic elements, and figurative language. (I have a PowerPoint on my store page that follows along with this note sheet for only $3.00).
