The Twice Exceptional Teacher

I started teaching in 2014 after graduating with my bachelors in Secondary History Education as a one-on-one aid and long-term substitute teacher at a suburban middle school in the Chicago suburbs, just to quickly accept a position as a 5th grade math and science teacher at Galapagos Charter School in Chicago which closed down in June 2016. From there, I taught Special Education at one of the Noble Charter Schools from August 2016-February 2019 teaching US History and World History at the instructional and college prep levels in the inclusion setting. At Noble, we had complete freedom in choice of curriculum as long as we taught the ACT/SAT standards. I created and modified my first years of curriculum at this position. In February 2019, I was hired as a Special Education Teacher at the largest neighborhood school in Chicago Public Schools, which also happens to be the largest International Baccalaureate (IB) High School in the country. Here I have taught several subjects in several settings. At the instructional level I have taught: Chemistry, Spanish I, World Studies, Civics, World Geography, and SOAR. At the General Education Inclusion setting (including both college prep and honors), I have taught: Chemistry, Biology, Spanish I, Algebra I, Integrated Math IV, World Studies, US History, Civics, World Geography, and Human Geography. I have also taught the following advanced courses in the inclusion setting: AP Human Geography and IB Global Politics.
