About the store

Experience

I've been teaching for the last five years - the past two years as a 2nd/3rd SDC combo teacher and two years as a kindergarten SDC teacher. This year I start my journey as a 1st-3rd grade SDC teacher! Before I was hired as a teacher, I spent three and a half years working in a RSP room. I have a strong background in education and journalism. I am a NCLB highly qualified teacher in Multiple Subjects and English - and soon to be science! I have a Masters of Science Degree in Special Education with dual-teaching credentials in Special Education and Multiple Subjects (General Education). I also minored in Educational Technology.

Teaching style

I have a very student-centered approach for teaching. I try to act more as a facilitator for students' individual learning and try to encourage more responsibility from my students. I like having my students work collaboratively together and as peer tutors. I also emphasize independence and problem solving in my classroom.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am a member of Pi Lambda Theta, a national honor society for educators. I was on the President's List (academic honors) each semester of my undergraduate career. As a graduate student, I became a member of the Golden Key Honor Society in recognition of being in the top 15% of my class at CSU Long Beach.

My own education history

I attended a two-year college where I began working toward a degree in journalism. I soon discovered that I loved working with students and in the public school system. I transferred to CSU Long Beach and ended up switching majors from journalism to education. I graduated in May 2011 with a bachelors degree in liberal studies and dual teaching credentials in multiple subjects (general education) and special education. I finished my masters degree at CSULB in May 2014.
