This product is designed to be used to supplement your vocabulary instruction. When I taught 4th grade, this was a literacy center once a week. This can easily be an activity for early finishers, integrated with the daily vocabulary instruction, or as homework. This visual of author's purpose helps students see the author is writing for one of three reasons, to persuade, inform, or entertain. The bolded letters allow students to see the quick mnemonic strategy of PIE. The bottom question allows students to share what they've learned. This was the first worksheet I ever made while student teaching over five years ago!
