This was a simple, pre-write exercise for my students who were learning about space! They made their own "constellations" by tracing the lines and connecting the dots. While they worked, we discussed how stars appear to make shapes in the sky and how people make legends to explain these patterns.
This activity is perfect for Earth Day! You can also use it to teach your students about making and understanding bar graphs. The first page in this packet is an empty graph with a row for each type of trash: soda bottle, banana peel, empty can, crumpled newspaper, apple core, broken lightbulb. The second page is a scramble of trash. Students will count how much they see and record their findings on the graph.
