About the store
Hi, I'm Alexis! I'm a former K/1 classroom teacher turned curriculum designer, now pursuing a PhD in Science Education at Indiana University. I specialize in creating engaging, interdisciplinary science resources for K–3 classrooms. My teaching journey began as an after-school supervisor at a Title 1 school, where I had no teaching experience and no budget—but a deep commitment to helping students thrive. That experience shaped my passion for hands-on, creative learning. Later, as a kindergarten and first grade teacher (2016–2023), I worked with students facing high academic and behavioral needs, always striving to make learning joyful and meaningful. Now, through my resources, I aim to blend play, curiosity, and challenge. I design every product with the goal of helping teachers build confident, curious learners—because I know firsthand how powerful those early learning years can be.

Teaching style

My teaching style blends structure with creativity, inquiry with play. I believe young learners thrive when they're encouraged to ask questions, explore with their hands, and connect learning to their everyday lives. Whether it’s through storytelling, sensory science, or problem-solving, I design lessons that support curiosity, independence, and joyful learning. My goal is to help you create a classroom where students feel confident, seen, and excited to learn.

Awards & shining teacher moments

One of my proudest accomplishments was building a vibrant, high-engagement science program from scratch in a classroom with limited resources. I’ve also co-led teacher training sessions on using questioning to deepen learning and co-designed community science events to bring STEM to life for kids and families. I’m honored to now share that experience through thoughtfully designed resources that help other teachers do the same...no matter their budget or background!

My own education history

I hold a Master’s Degree in STEM Instructional Leadership and in Mind, Brain, and Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. I earned my BA in Graphic Design and Illustration from the University of Southern California and my California teaching credential from Dominican University of California. I’m currently completing a PhD in Science Education at Indiana University.

Additional biographical information

When I’m not designing science resources or working on my PhD, you’ll find me blogging about playful learning, curiosity-driven teaching, and ways to bring science to life in early childhood classrooms. I believe that great teaching is both an art and a science, and I love supporting fellow educators in finding joy and confidence in their work.
