I have taught secondary mathematics for 16+ years. I am currently finishing up a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction - Mathematics Education and am applying this knowledge and experience to my work.
The first page of these notes define an identity and derive some of the trigonometric identities. The second page of these notes have examples of simplifying trigonometric expressions using identities. The third page of these notes verify identities. Answer key included!
These notes are scaffolded to support students in creating their own notes about simplifying trigonometric expressions (using reciprocal, quotient, and Pythagorean identities). A completed example is included for students that are absent or have the accommodation where they receive a completed copy of notes. This would best be used after students have experienced working some examples during a time of productive struggle.
Students practice simplifying trigonometric expressions collaboratively with a pass around activity. This activity incorporates two types of thinking - simplifying and analyzing other students' work. This includes four different versions for each student in a group to have a different set of problems. ANSWER KEYS INCLUDED! Your review of this free product would be greatly appreciated!
This activity guides students into recognizing what type of equations have a domain that is not all real numbers. Use this before developing "rules" on how to algebraically determine the domain of a root function and a rational function from their equations. Answer key is included. This works best as as collaborative assignment with class discussions at various points. This is an assignment to promote inquiry/discovery.
