Argument analysis is one of the most important skills for students to master in AP Seminar. This handout can be used with ANY article, allowing students to fully learn how to analyze an author's argument for purpose, line of reasoning, and quality of evidence, and it prompts students to starting making evaluations on arguments. This is a perfect practice for EOC Part A for the AP exam! I use this throughout the year for numerous articles, including practice exams.

Analyzing images, graphs, and charts are necessary for students in AP Seminar, especially in Performance Task 2 (PT2) and End of Course Exam Part B (EOCB). Students are many times unfamiliar with these skills, and along with the acronym OPTIC, this sheet allows students to practice the skills of analyzing images. This includes claims, arguments, evaluation, and even line of reasoning. This is a great practice to use throughout the year, even as students are analyzing stimulus materials for mock

Struggling with peer editing using only checklists? Are students engaged in the editing process and increasing their skills? If you answer "no" or even "a little," this activity is for you! This presentation is a whole class activity, and does keep students engaged. This activity gives clear guidelines to students in the editing process and solidifies writing structure, both giving feedback to peers AND strengthens their own writing skills. I found that just a checklist does little to teach stu

Podcasts are a great medium to generate discussion and provide many critical thinking opportunities. However, how can you assess student learning after listening and discussing podcasts in class? This creative project assessment should be paired with Malcolm Gladwell's Revisions History podcast, season 1, episodes 3 (Carlos Doesn't Remember), 4 (Food Fight), and 5 (My Little Hundred Million). These podcast episodes deal with the idea of college equity: both in the context of access to low incom

This is a quick and easy reference sheet to use on the first day to get to know students. I keep these in a binder to refer back to throughout the year. It's helpful to know about their future plans, what their goals are, what sporting events to attend to support them, and what shows or movies to mention as examples in class. Also, it's super cute!
