About the store

Experience

I began my teaching career as a classroom teacher, teaching grades 1, 2, and 3. After discovering my LOVE for teaching reading, I went to graduate school for a Master's degree in Reading Education. I am now a K-4 Literacy Specialist in a public school in Massachusetts.

Teaching style

I try to not only teach my students to read, but to also teach them to be lifelong readers. Motivation and engagement are essential components of reading instruction, and I am constantly trying to think of new and creative ways to get my students excited about reading. Having engaging tasks and most importantly, engaging texts, is a key to reading growth, especially for our struggling readers. After reading countless research articles in graduate school, I also try to aim to incorporate authentic reading and writing tasks into my lessons.

Additional biographical information

When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my husband and two young boys. I also enjoy a good novel, iced coffee, reality TV show (huge Bravo fan), and a day at the beach.
