The Similes and Metaphors Song Challenge is one of my students' favorite activities every year. The Google slides include 5 popular pop songs with similes and/or metaphors in the lyrics by artists such as Harry Styles, Frozen, and Pharrell Williams. Students have the opportunity to create their own restaurant menu! Students could explore cultures from all over the world and their food for any social studies/ELA project. Students could also work with decimals for math. The menu is EDITABLE so you/your students can personalize it!

The activity asks students to pick any random object and create a poster with a simile, metaphor, alliteration, and onomatopoeia about the object. The example shows ice cream. This will be great for reviewing figurative language and hanging up around the classroom! Students can edit online or use paper to create the poster.

There are a few reading comprehension questions scattered throughout the pages, relating to point of view, context clues, making inferences, and theme.
