I have been teaching for 8 years. I started my career teaching K-3rd grade students with physical disabilities. As an incoming college freshmen, my major was pre-physical therapy. That quickly changed after one semester to Elementary Education. My first teaching job joined those 2 passions of mine. I still stay in contact with several of my students and their families. However, after 5 years, I was ready for a change and wanted to challenge myself. I transferred to the worst performing school in my state the previous year. I taught the 2nd grade inclusion class. After that year teaching general education, I knew my heart was in Special Education. I was able to get the Varying Exceptionalities position at the same school. This past year, I decided to teach at a private school specializing in mild disabilities. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. At NFSSE, it is truly about developing the whole child and growing them the most successful adults they can be. I am currently teaching the 3rd-5th grade class. The students in my class have Autism, Down Syndrome, or a learning disability. They amaze me every day and teach me how to be a better teacher!
