This packet helps to break down the math into bite-size pieces. - Provides studies with a formula as well as a visual represen

About the store

Experience

As I've worked as a tutor, classroom teacher, librarian, and now as a homeschool mom, I’ve enjoyed seeing what brings light and excitement to the eyes of individual children. It’s always been a dream of mine to create a curriculum that ignites those passions and embraces the individuality of each unique learner. I’m Laura, homeschooling mom of three and creator of Ticket to Learning (tickettolearning.com). I’m a dreamer with a mind that never seems to stop asking questions and seeing connections in the world around me.

Teaching style

I like to stay up-do-date on the latest educational research and pull from methods and philosophies old and new to teach the child in front of me. Everyone learns a bit differently and education is about helping each child learn and thrive in the ways that work for them.

Awards & shining teacher moments

While in college, I was the head tutor at my university's Learning Success Services. Upon graduation, I stayed on as head tutor and taught study skills classes (with an emphasis on Cornell style note taking) to students struggling to maintain a passable GPA. I helped develop a Kindergarten program in a small, rural school that previously only offered classes for first through 8th grade. While teaching in the K-2 classroom there, I received recognition for scaffolding and individualized instruction for each student.

My own education history

I have a B.A. in Religious Studies with a minor in family studies. I have taken additional education courses and certifications at both the graduate and undergraduate level. I have also completed an array of literacy development training courses including the Ready! for Kindergarten program through the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children.

Additional biographical information

I live in Idaho and spend my days homeschooling my children and writing curriculum. On the weekends we enjoy spending time in the beautiful outdoors. I especially love kayaking down the river with my family. I also enjoy serving as an assistant director in the local public school's theater program as well as being an educator for our local Future City team. I recently launched a literature-based unit study curriculum for homeschool families. I draw all of the materials I share here on TPT from that larger curriculum. You can find out more about it at tickettolearning.com. Some other things I love: being married to my best friend, dark chocolate, creating art (my favorite mediums are watercolor or alcohol markers with colored pencil detailing), books, and board games. I'm also usually up for a good adventure.
