This document is a page of reading notes followed by a page of critical thinking questions. The students should be able to answer these questions using the reading. It is aligned with the VA USI.4b SOLs and answers the question: How did the Europeans interact with the Native Americans? It discusses the interactions of the Spanish, French, and the English. This is a comprehensive study guide to help your students review for the United States History I SOL. Beginning at USI.6 and continuing through USI.9, students will complete various activity pages in order to help them prepare for the SOL...you could also break it into sections and use this as a study guide for each unit throughout the year!
This worksheet is a great way to provide your students with some critical thinking! The worksheet has several quotes and the students must use their knowledge of the motivations, obstacles, and accomplishments of European exploration to decide to which the quote refers!
Again, this is aligned with the VA USI.4a SOLs, but I'm sure it can be adjusted to fit your needs. An answer key is included! Created by Toni Carr
This was a song written to align with the VA USI.4a standards--European Exploration. The song talks about the four explorers required for this SOL--Coronado, La Salle, Cabot, and Champlain. It is sung to the tune of "You Don't Know You're Beautiful." For a video version, Please e-mail me and I will e-mail the video to you. Created by Toni Carr
Here is a great way to add to your students' knowledge of the Iroquois! They must pretend they have been sent back in time to observe the tribe just as an archaeologist would. They need to understand the role of women, how the Iroquois obtain food, make clothes, and what resources the Iroquois have available to them. Aligned with the Virginia SOLs USI.3. This product can be used by anyone at any grade level! Its great for when you want the kiddos to practice writing. It is a postcard template with four postcards on it. The address label is also already on the template. My plan is to print them on cardstock and cut them apart! It can be used as a very simple assessment tool or as paprt of a lesson! Then you can easily hang them all to display student work!
This document is a collection of pictures and descriptions for each Native American group. The students must correctly label each picture/description with the name of each Native American group. Although this is aligned with the Virginia state SOLs, the document can be easily adapted with your state standards. Created by: Toni Carr
Aligned with the VA (Virginia) USI.4 standards of learning (SOLs) , this file is a highlight and summarize notes sample. It covers the motivations for, obstacles to, and accomplishments of exploration.
This is a great way to introduce the explorers, and because it is a word document, you can edit it to fit your state standards! Created by: Toni Carr
