This lesson allows students to explore the concept of multiplication for the first time using equal groups. They will learn that multiplication is a way to find the total number of groups as well as the total number of items in each group and combine that information to make an equation. There are multiple opportunities for students to observe equal groups, create equal groups, and explain/evaluate equal group situations. There are 12 slides total.

This is a factor flower template I made for my students to practice those products that have multiple factors (12, 20, 24, 36, etc) and to deepen their understanding of multiple factors. I assigned them a product based on ability level then they had to use manipulatives to build their arrays and determind their sets of factors.
