About the store

Experience

Before retirement I worked as the senior graphic designer for Truckee Meadows Community College's Public Information Office. I also spent three years as the program officer in the Grants Office managing the college's TAACCCT grant, as well as being the go-to-gal for college events and award ceremonies for the president.

Teaching style

For clarity I want to say that while I never taught students in a classroom, I did teach educators. I instructed the college's educators on navigating the intricacies of the federal grant system.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Over the years working as TMCC's senior graphic designer I earned over 30 design awards, the college's Employee of the Year and was the recipient of a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award. However, to be honest my favorite honor was the "World's Greatest Mom" mug from my children!

My own education history

I hold degrees in Fine Arts and Art History. Though in all honesty, I earned them later in my career after learning from a marketing viewbook I was writing that children are 27% more likely to attend college if one of their parents also attended. That percentage is higher when both parents hold degrees, hence the reason I went back to school. And it must have worked, we currently have five college grads with a six in the pipeline!

Additional biographical information

I am also the mother of eight (nope, not a typo) children, plus three more who married into this crazy family and now four grandchildren. Our children covered just about every area of K-12 education from the average student to gifted and talented to special education. I am married to a retired college professor who still keeps an active K-12 license, and -- whew -- finally retired!
