The is a metric system measurement review game. Measuring with the metric system is a national standard at every level and yet students continue to struggle with being able to estimate measurements using the metric system. This review game is a fun, active, and engaging activity that can be adapted for primary, middle, and secondary students. I use it at the secondary level as an extra credit opportunity, but I've included adaptations for middle school and primary levels.
Students will gain a deeper understanding of the lunar cycle and phases of the moon with this manipulative and lesson. Students cut out, assemble and manipulate this model of the Sun, Earth, and Moon then create two sets of unique lunar cycle dice which are used to complete a data table. Content can be adapted for all levels of student. I have used this lesson with seniors in high school as well as middle school students and it works great for all levels, everyone enjoys the construction proc
This class project involves groups of students selecting unique crew responsibilities to complete a larger goal of landing a human on Mars. Student requirements include scale model drawings of spacecraft, model construction, and unique problem solving. Each group of students work on their own part of the mission, but must collaborate with the rest of the class to make sure that the larger mission objectives remain synchronized. Covers many next generation science and engineering standards, in
This project adds a twist to the classic egg drop lab by having students build a landing pad for a raw egg to drop into. Students work collaboratively with specific materials to construct a landing pad with the goal of protecting a dropped egg. High speed video can be recorded and used as part of a lab analysis. I have used this project with middle school science as well as AP Physics students.
Students, Gr. 6-12, work in small groups to investigate key indicators in climate change. They present their findings to the class and then discuss how each key indicator is connected. Students will learn how to interpret data, filter important information, summarize findings, and present ideas for solving problems. This activity is linked to the Next Generation National Science Teaching Standards.
