I have been teaching for 9 years! I have taught 1st, 3rd grade and 5th grade in the states of Missouri, Kansas and California. I have also had experience working with K-5 in before and after school programming and volunteer roles. In addition to my education roles, I have worked as a curriculum developer for children's ministry content too! Are your students struggling to visualize decimals? My students struggled to picture what a "thousandth" or a "hundredth" really meant. I had students asking me if decimals were negative numbers... I knew then that expanded form, comparing decimals and rounding decimals was going to be tough if they weren't able to picture what a decimal was. That's when I came up with this method of "building" and visualizing decimals. Tenths = dimes Hundredths = pennies Which that's pretty straightforward... b

Teaching style

As teachers, the worst thing we can do is make learning seem boring. The best thing we can do is ignite in students a curiosity and love of learning that surpasses our classroom walls and changes the world.
