About the store
I am certified to teach grades 1-8, all subjects and also hold K-12 endorsements in reading and gifted education. I taught sixth grade for seven years, followed by gifted intervention specialist work in grades 3-8 for three years. Currently, I teach full time at a local university and provide teacher training to area districts. I am the program advisor for middle childhood education and teach courses involving literature, content area reading, word study, and middle level practices.

Literature circles are a wonderful way to engage students in conversations about books. Often, role sheets are used to "train" students in the process. Once students have had practice, they can abandon the role sheets for more open ended journaling type sharing. These role sheets include: Discussion Director, Passage Picker, Crafty Connector, Artful Artist, Literary Luminary, Vocabulary Enricher, and Inquisitive Investigator. ALL sheets clearly describe the job of each role and promote students

You are never too old to enjoy picture books. I teach preservice middle level teachers. For my students, I created this resource listing picture books for all core content areas (LA, Math, SS, Science)to encourage them to compliment their units with picture books to reach all learners and to build their students' background knowledge.

Experience

Teaching style

I prefer active learning and plan my lessons using the three part learning framework. I infuse literacy tools into all of my lessons and model for my preservice teachers strategies they can use with their own students.
