Depending on their level, they may calculate volume as well (if they decide to use mulch, gravel or other bedding at a certain thickness. Editable (Word document) project include tables to show calculation
In this mini-project, students will design and draw to scale (plan and elevation views) their dream vacation cabin. They will calculate areas of the flooring, siding and roofing. Then they will research the internet and choose materials, find actual costs, and calculate total materials costs for those parts of their cabin. Handouts including a guide for students and a simple rubric, are included. Pythagorean theorem is used to calculate roofing.
