Fun! Fun! Fun! Math! Math! Math! I am offering a CCSS Math product that is fun for the students but challenging and rigorous enough to enhance the students’ Math skills during the “tough time to teach” holiday season. Experience

My name is Jeffrey Hughes, and I have taught in the public schools for 31 years in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. I have also taught in the states of Missouri and Kentucky, but I grew up in the Iowa school system. I'm currently the academic instructional coach for ELA and Writing at our 6th-8th middle school.

Teaching style

I love teaching students where there's some kind of engagement or "action" going on in the classroom and assessing students in a variety of ways rather than just pencil and paper. I take pride in creating authentic and rigorous assessments for my students to help them in future educational opportunities and in state accountable testing. I've had many co-workers and teachers in my district and state request my Reading assessments and novel/book instructional units because of their rigor and imbedded state standards. It’s very rewarding, too, to create a product that benefits the teacher and student at the same time.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was nominated by my peers/co-workers for the Teacher of the Year Award in our state a few years back. I thanked them from the bottom of my heart, but I respectively declined the process to be chosen. It did not feel right or fair to accept the nomination, because I have witnessed so many outstanding and dedicated teachers in my career like YOU who I know are more deserving than me of the award. I was and am still humbled by this moment in my career.

My own education history

I have an BS Degree in Elementary Education along with Masters and Rank I Degrees in Guidance Counseling.
