The Animal Adaptations Unit can be used to teach the different types of adaptations and includes hands-on tasks to reinforce student learning. "Sideways Storied from Wayside School" is a great book to use for the beginning of the school year. The novel lends itself to learning about the following reading skills: Making Connections, Cause-and-Effect, Character Motivation, Context Clues, Dictionary Skills, and Comprehension. For each section of chapters, students will have words to define, dictionary practice, and comprehension questions. Students will create a brochure for the school as a culminating project.

In this Morphology Unit, students will study word parts throughout the school year. In this unit, you will find a weekly schedule, a list of affixes, examples of anchor charts, and graphic organizers to teach each new word part. Students will have the chance to break apart new words, find new words in the dictionary, and show their understanding of new definitions by writing sentences or illustrating the word's meaning.
