In this Morphology Unit, students will study word parts throughout the school year. In this unit, you will find a weekly schedule, a list of affixes, examples of anchor charts, and graphic organizers to teach each new word part. Students will have the chance to break apart new words, find new words in the dictionary, and show their understanding of new definitions by writing sentences or illustrating the word's meaning.

"Amber Brown is Not a Crayon" is a great book to use for the beginning of the school year. "The Secret School" is a great book to use for the beginning of the school year. The novel lends itself to learning about the following reading skills: making connections, cause and effect, character motivation, compare and contrast, sequencing, journaling, comprehension For each chapter students have comprehension questions to answer. "SOCKS" is a great book to review many reading concepts. The novel lends itself to learning about the following reading skills: figurative language, character traits, asking questions, sequencing/summarizing, visualizing, cause and effect, problem and solution, vocabulary, and comprehension. Each chapter focuses on a different reading concept and includes comprehension questions and vocabulary.

"Muggie Maggie" is a great book to use at the beginning of the school year or before teaching a new skill, more specifically when introducing cursive handwriting. For each chapter, students will define new vocabulary by breaking the word in to parts (prefixes/suffixes, base word) or they will use their context clues and/or a dictionary to define new words.
