About the store
I have enjoyed teaching 3rd grade since the 2008-2009 school year. Prior to teaching third grade, I taught one semester of 4th grade. I enjoy teaching the intermediate aged kids due to their imaginations, ability to think abstractly, and their ability to laugh with me and not at me.

Experience

I have enjoyed teaching 3rd grade since the 2008-2009 school year. Prior to teaching third grade, I taught one semester of 4th grade. I enjoy teaching the intermediate aged kids due to their imaginations, ability to think abstractly, and their ability to laugh with me and not at me.

Teaching style

I love using components of Whole Brain Teaching in my classroom, but also respect and utilize traditional teaching techniques with certain skills and points within units. I believe small group and hands are effective techniques for most students, although there are those who need more support and options in their learning. I love when the students' inquiries and ideas take or learning to places that are relevant, interesting, and unexpected. I feel children learn best when they are invested in the lessons.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I graduated from USI with a magna cum laude Bachelor of Arts. I received multiple awards throughout college for leadership, creativity, and going above and beyond during my student teaching experiences. I am a published poet and enjoy volunteering in my community as a peer mentor, Big Sister, and tutor.

My own education history

Undergraduate - USI - December 2007 graduate earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Middle School math minor, and primary and intermediate licensing.I am currently licensed to teach K-8. Graduate - WGU - March 2013 graduate earning a Masters in Elementary Math Education.

Additional biographical information

As a child, school was my safe place. I will never forget my second grade teacher, Mrs. Towler, who truly showed me what a caring, compassionate teacher can do for a child in desperate need of love and confidence. I am the proud mom of four beautiful children. Without them, I don't think i would be the teacher I am today. Two of my children have been diagnosed with ADHD and are unmedicated. With their current and past teachers, I have learned many techniques to reach their minds and help them to be successful.
