This is a resource I use to replace a traditional direct instruction lesson on Unit 5: Ecology in Earth and Environmental Science. These notes review vocabulary, levels of organization, abiotic vs biotic factors, biomes, nutrient cycles and human impacts. The notes are linked on slide 2. Please make a copy of the Google Doc, allowing editing if desired. The last three pages are practice ecology questions and a Biome Brochure activity.

This is a no prep, ready to print assignment that helps guide students into researching a topic online. As a sheltered ESL teacher, this assignment is to help introduce looking up topics online on their own. Students look up three different types of volcanoes. A list of examples for each type of volcano is provided. The first two pages include written instructions that have been translated to several different languages.

A modified version of the famous starburst lab to have students draw what they see at each step, geared towards ESL students, or students who need modified assignments. This is a great way to keep students engaged during the lab, and has a short review on the types of rocks and types of weathering.

A very simple review for students on the types of graphs, includes the definition, an image and an example. I usually present this as a bell ringer the day we start talking about graphing data (independent variable vs dependent, etc). This provides visual support for each.
