Experience

I have been teaching Algebra 1 and 2 for 14 years. I have worked mainly with at-risk students at low performing schools, and class sizes tend to be medium to large.

Teaching style

UnBeatable Math is focused on a visual approach and includes scaffolding and tech integration whenever possible. Course materials encourage organization, note taking, and individual accountability. Even if students collaborate to produce their work, each student must submit individual work. UnBeatable Math incorporates technology in such a way that minimizes teacher take-home grading and maximizes student participation at every skill level. All lessons are on PowerPoint and included Guided Notes!! All materials can be edited to suit your needs. Warm-ups, Exit tickets, and problem sets are available for SCHOOLOGY USERS ONLY and are available for purchase, as well. Student work is SELF-GRADED and provides INSTANT FEEDBACK and MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS to be successful. This course grades on correctness - not completion - providing students, parents, and teachers with MEANINGFUL DATA. We use many forms of QUALITY QUESTIONING - not purely multiple choice and fill in the blank. Students will be required to think. Function Transformation Exploration Activities are formatted in Google Docs and provide links to Desmos Animations. These are open-ended response activities and can be embedded on all LMS systems, or used as a stand alone product. While 90% of the course is self-graded, it is important to include open-ended response opportunities that will allow teachers to use discretion in grading, as well as to capture the level of understanding of each student via formative assessment.
