About the store
Welcome to Unearthed Learning Roots! We offer resources for teachers and homeschool families that are engaging, accessible, and easy to use. Our mission is to help build confident learners who truly enjoy learning. My love for teaching started long before I ever had a classroom. I remember tutoring my mom's 2nd graders when I was in 4th or 5th grade. Throughout high school and college I worked as a peer tutor. After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with a BA in Spanish, I substitute taught for a year before going on to teach public school P-12 English Language Learners from 2015–2021. I earned my MAT in Teaching English as a Second Language in 2017 which led to the honor of teaching pre-service teachers in Mexico through the U.S. State Department's English Language Virtual Educator Program in 2021-2022. Since 2022, I've been homeschooling my own elementary-aged children, which keeps me grounded in what families and learners actually need. This lifelong journey is what drives me to create resources that are truly engaging and accessible for every kind of learner.

Teaching style

At the heart of my teaching style is the core belief that all humans learn best when they enjoy learning. In order to help our students learn, it’s our job to uncover the root of what motivates them; without motivation, learning is minimal. Kids, just like me and you, want to learn more about things they care about. As educators, we must dig up what kids love to learn about and incorporate the things they love into their learning experiences to help them become more motivated to learn, sparking a lifelong love of learning. That's exactly what my resources are designed to do. By blending thematic and interest-led learning with hands-on activities, every resource is built to meet learners where they are. And because your time matters, everything is low-prep and ready to use so you can spend less time preparing and more time doing what you do best: teaching. Because at the end of the day, we all have one simple goal: uncover what they love to build the roots they need.

Awards & shining teacher moments

After years of watching my ELL students find their voices and grow into confident learners, I thought I knew a thing or two about unlocking a student’s potential. However, one of my most challenging experiences came from my own home. My son was a reluctant, struggling reader and watching him fight through something that felt so hard was tough as a mom and a teacher. We worked with an Orton-Gillingham tutor to build a foundation, but he was still behind his peers in reading. After two years (I’m not even counting the ones where I read to him) of digging through books and pulling out all of the tricks I knew to find a book he’d truly love, I finally found the one. Luckily it was a large series of books and he read one after the other faster than I could blink. That’s when I truly started seeing improvements in his reading: decoding, comprehension, and love of learning. The day he excitedly asked me to go to the library to get a new book, I cried. It was a living reminder that every child has a spark. Sometimes you just have to do a little digging to find it.
